Pro riders sweep Red Bull Final Descent Series - Athletes tested with 12-Hours of Downhill at Angel Fire Resort.

Greeted with a sunny mountain morning, 121 downhill racers from 5 states and 2 countries descended on Angel Fire to compete for more than $5,000 in cash and prizes. As darkness set in and riders relied on lights for their final laps, it was Ryan Sutton of Crested Butte, Colorado and Jackie Harmony of Sedona, Arizona who clenched the Pro Solo titles with 33 and 31 laps respectively, and swept the series in the process. The Angel Fire event completed the Final Descent series which began at Winter Park Resort in Colorado in September. The overall series winners, the male and female riders who posted the most laps combined for both events, took home an additional $500 cash and ultimate end-of-season bragging rights. They were:

Solo Men’s Pro-Ryan Sutton-71 laps total
Solo Women’s Pro- Jackie Harmony- 68 laps total

“I’m super stoked! In these events there aren’t too many women, so I ride against the guys and just try to keep up,” said Women's Pro Solo winner Jackie Harmony on finishing just two laps behind the men.”I’ll be back next year.”

Red Bull Final Descent is the reincarnation of “The Burner,” a 12-hour endurance race held the past two years at New Mexico’s Angel Fire Resort. The format of the event is simple—riders choose from several technical courses of varying difficulty. After half a day of riding, the finisher in each category with the most laps wins.

Why can't we find out about these before they happen?? We need a race/event page where anything and everything event wise can be posted, with a map view as well. I would race far more often if I didn't read about these things the day after they happened!

I thought I might leek a little news to all the fans of this stellar race. The Angel Fire NM Red Bull Final Descent has been scheduled for October 15th. It's rumored they are challenging riders from around the world to come and try to beat 33 laps which has stood for 3 years now. There will be 3 races this year. NM, CO and UT all with cash prizes and series cash prize. Look for the official press release info coming soon.

Left out of the report - both pro winers also stomped at Telluride's Fall Tilt 12 hour - that's three 12 hour races in three weekends...

Thanks Tony G. (BikeWorks) for keeping us Screaming Squirrels screaming all day long! Tony couldn't race this year due to a broken wrist (see above picture). I'm still doing laps in my head and can't wait for this race to role around again next year. Nice writeup and awesome pictures Long!
