North Valley Bike Park Grand Opening - New Mexico

by Long Nguyen
Oct 25, 2011 at 22:12

This past weekend was a great weekend for riders in New Mexico. It was the grand opening of the North Valley Bike Park in Albuquerque, NM. Over the past year, riders have been working with the Bernalillo Country to create a bike skills park in substitution of the old Duke City BMX track. Riders were breaking in to the old location because many didn’t have memberships to the new Duke City BMX Track and the new BMX track was only open on certain days for a short amount of hours.

The County, Hilrid and the local riders came together to develop a park for the community that everyone can ride for free. After a few meetings over the winter, the county finally broke ground in July. After 3 short months, dozens of riders stand in front of the gates of the bike park as I did in anticipation of the grand opening. Finally when the ribbon was cut everyone rushed to enjoy the new North Valley Bike Park.

Sorry for the lack of pictures of the park, I was riding my bike.

Special Thanks:
Bernalillo Country
Grant Brodehl
Tony Gradillas
Bike Works Albuquerque
Matson Hunter
Chris Humbard (Red Bull SBM)
Mike Taylor (Red Bull FMS)
Celicus Clothing
And everyone who helped out to make this happen.

OTTAWA ONTARIO NEEDS A PARK LIKE THIS! Seriously, to any PB user in the Ottawa area who is not yet a member of the Ottawa Mountain Bike Association (OMBA) should join up and support the effort to develop a skills park like this in Ottawa.

Is the new skills park at the same place as the old Duke City BMX Track, or do they still have that too?

This track is where the old Duke City BMX track was. The new track is up the street from The Pit.

If I had the money, I'd do this. Just buy a plot of land and go to town on it. We need something like this here in Tucson.
